About

Vimy Foundation Alumni

Learn more about our alumni, their accomplishments to-date, and the work they are doing to support the next generation of youth taking part in The Vimy Foundation’s experiential initiatives.

Since 2006, more than 400 young people from Canada, France and the UK have taken part in Vimy Foundation educational initiatives. The Beaverbrook Vimy Prize (BVP), Vimy Pilgrimage Award (VPA), and Vimy Inspires Tomorrow (VIT) programs enable youth to develop their critical thinking, leadership and social skills, connect with their peers, and gain unique perspectives on the history of the world wars. Recipients are young leaders of today and tomorrow who go on to diverse educational and career paths.

Chloe Guan

BVP

2024

Following my incredible BVP experience in 2024, I now co-lead the Programs Committee on the Vimy Foundation Alumni Council. I am currently studying Arts & Sciences at CEGEP, and I strive to give back to my community through enhancing the value of interdisciplinary work!

Abrielle Burrs

BVP

2023

I currently study social sciences at Cégep. As a 2023 recipient, the BVP helped me realize that I can accomplish great things. I have grown so much since; I’ve joined the youth committee in my riding, and am involved even more in my community. I am so excited to share my ideas with the Council and Foundation. History will be the service of my life.

Tim Turriff

VPA

2016

Following my amazing VPA experience, I sought ways to give back to young Canadians and the Vimy Foundation. I am an active member of the Alumni Council and invite all alumni to become involved! I currently work for Natural Resources Canada to advance clean energy policy.

Sung Park

I am a secretary of the Vimy Foundation Alumni Council and was a recipient of the 2021 Vimy Pilgrimage Award program! I am currently a student at the University of Toronto and the founder of a nonprofit organization called Stargivers Initiative.

Heena Singla

VPA

2021

I was a recipient of the VPA 2021, and am a co-chair for the Vimy Foundation Alumni Council. In 2022, I had the opportunity to join the youth delegation for the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid in France, with Veterans Affairs Canada. Currently, I am in my second year at the University of Toronto.

Alumni Council

In 2022, we established the Alumni Council to ensure a greater youth voice for current and future Vimy Foundation initiatives. Entirely youth-driven and led by an executive team, Council members meet virtually as a group 3 to 4 times a year to discuss and share their perspectives. Two committees also address strategic areas of our work.
