The Vimy Pin was introduced in February 2009 as a symbol of remembrance and unity. The Vimy Foundation encourages Canadians to wear the pin each year on Vimy Ridge Day, April 9th, to honour those who served and to recognize the significance of this shared history. The four coloured boxes on the pin represent the four Canadian divisions that fought together for the first time at the Battle of Vimy Ridge—red for the First Division, dark blue for the Second, grey-blue for the Third, and green for the Fourth. The order of the ribbon’s colours reflects the positioning of these divisions on the battlefield. At the top of the clasp, an elongated maple leaf—a symbol of Canada for centuries—encloses the twin towers of the Vimy Memorial. Designed by Walter S. Allward and completed in 1936, the memorial stands on land granted to Canada by France, honouring the service and sacrifice of Canadians in the First World War.
